What To Expect from the MTA in 2026

Sorry guys, it's been a while since I posted. I had planned to release a bunch of posts over the period between now and the last post, however, I got extremely busy and things got sidetracked so I apologize for that. I hope to come back and maintain a rather steady stream of posts for the next couple of months.

Looking back at how 2026 played out for the MTA, things definitely could've been much worse, but they also could've been much better.

I decided since 2025 is coming to an end and 2026, which I think will be a much better year, is on the verge of starting, I'd take a look at what's likely to come for the MTA in 2026. Before I start I'll start by saying that all of this is just speculation, and is by no means confirmed by the MTA. It's anyones guess what actually ends up happening next year but I tried to be realistic with my speculation.

I'd say it's relatively tough to say what will end up happening next year, and it will probably play out somewhat similar to this year. However, this decade has been monumental for both the subway and railroads with a hodgepodge of large-scale projects being kicked into gear including the opening of East Side Access, the retirement of the Metrocard, the start of construction for Penn Station access, the procurement of the M9As, continued development of Second Avenue Subway, etc.

It's likely various smaller to medium scale capital projects will also hit the ground running this year, along with various rollouts relating to fares and tickets for both the subway and commuter railroads as the final rollout to OMNY is completed and various new ticketing practices on railroads begin. The MTA will likely continue their campaigns against subway surfing and fare evading.

In the end, I have no doubt that 2026 will be a very thrilling year for the MTA, and I look forward to continuing my journey "debrief" you guys on what's going on!
